Estuary Cycling for Pensioners

Exploring the scenic River Suir from Waterford to New Ross at your own pace

Pensioners cycling together on a flat riverside path in County Waterford

What westareatscreens Ltd Built

We're westareatscreens Ltd, and we created something special for cycling enthusiasts aged 55 and beyond. The River Suir flatlands between Waterford and New Ross offered the perfect opportunity — a route that doesn't demand climbing, that doesn't require intense physical conditioning, and that lets riders simply enjoy the outdoors.

It all started when we noticed a gap. Plenty of cycling routes exist, sure. But most assume you're training for something, pushing yourself harder, competing against the clock. That's not what we wanted. We've spent the last few years developing this cycling pathway specifically because pensioners deserve access to nature without the pressure.

The Suir Valley route works because it's genuine. No forced difficulty. No marketing hype. Just a flat, well-maintained path with genuine stopping points — actual places worth visiting, not manufactured "attractions." And the community that's formed around it? That's been the real surprise. Cyclists aren't just moving between points. They're connecting with each other.

How We Operate

The Principles Behind Our Route

Flat Terrain

Zero elevation challenges. The River Suir corridor provides genuinely flat cycling throughout. You'll focus on enjoying the ride, not fighting gradients.

Clear Navigation

Well-marked paths from Waterford to New Ross. We've done the route-planning work. You just follow the signs and enjoy the experience.

Your Pace

No schedules. No timing gates. Ride when you want, stop when you want. Some cyclists complete it in a day, others take several outings.

Natural Setting

The estuary environment means real scenery. You're not cycling past parking lots or shopping centers. It's genuine countryside throughout.

Our Focus

Why We Built This Specific Route

westareatscreens Ltd exists because we believe older cyclists shouldn't compromise. The cycling world often caters to performance athletes or families with young children. Pensioners get overlooked — despite having more time, more cycling experience, and genuine passion for the activity.

The Waterford to New Ross path solved a real problem. It's close to towns (easy parking, nearby facilities), but feels genuinely removed from traffic and congestion. The distance works too. It's substantial enough to feel like a proper outing — roughly 40 kilometers round trip if you go the full distance — but manageable in a single day or broken across multiple rides.

We've included specific information about stopping points because riders told us they wanted actual destinations. The stops aren't arbitrary. Each one offers something genuine: a café, historical interest, riverside views, or just a good rest point. That's what makes the difference between a cycling route and a cycling experience.

Real Voices

What Riders Say

"Wasn't convinced at first — thought I'd lost my cycling days behind me. But this route's completely different. No pressure, no hills, just riding alongside the river with other people who actually get it. I'm out here twice a week now."

— Michael, age 67

"The stops make all the difference. It's not just about cycling from A to B. We'll do Waterford to the halfway point, grab coffee, chat with other riders, and head back. That's become our Saturday routine. My wife loves it too."

— Margaret, age 64

"Genuinely flat the whole way. My knees appreciate that. I'd stopped cycling because every other route near us involved climbing. This brings me back to what I loved about cycling in the first place."

— Declan, age 71
